The Ethnic Studies Program of Saint Mary's College of California is seeking a candidate with Ethnic Studies expertise to teach Youth Cultures in Fall 2024.
Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:40-11:55am This course is an introduction to the field of critical Youth Studies that discusses the social constructions of youth culture and identity across time, space and social historical movements. The course focuses upon key concepts and theories of youth that intersect across social positions (i.e., race, gender, sexuality, class and ethnicity) in the U.S.
In addition to teaching, instructors in the Ethnic Studies program are expected to hold regular office hours (three hours a week) to provide students with support outside of the classroom. Course design must follow the program's common syllabus, meeting the
requirements described.
This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in ES, education or related field Required: doctorate Preferred.
Teaching experience in Ethnic Studies and discussion-based courses required.
A commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Knowledge or research on youth cultures of historically under-represented comunities.
Applicants must reside in California.
Salary: $9,929-$13,744 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iMq54hZVvyJovI2FtEnCVQKpNqW7J8ed/view?usp=share_link.
