StudentAffairs.com Online Courses Set For Fall
This fall StudentAffairs.com will be changing the format
of the Short Course program. Instead of being e-mail based,
where subscribers receive a weekly lesson via electronic
mail, the Short Course will now be Web based.
We will be utilizing WebCT
which is one of the leading platforms for offering
coursework over the Internet. The courses will be much more
interactive for both the student and facilitator. Right now
we have three courses planned:
Building Learning Community in Cyberspace
The authors Rena Pallof and Keith Pratt will be using
their recently published book on the subject to work with
subscribers to help formulate these type of purposeful
communities on their campus.
Emerging Disability Issues for the Student Affairs
Generalist
Dr. Jane Thierfeld Brown, of the University of
Connecticut and Ward Newmeyer, of the University of
California at Berkeley and former President of the
Association on Higher Education and Disability, will
introduce student affairs generalists to basic issues in
the disability field.
Internet 101
Instructor to be Announced. This course will help
subscribers learn more about the Web and the Internet and
how to utilize its many resources.
As these new courses will provide cutting edge content
and an opportunity to interact with both course developers
and fellow participants there will be a reasonable fee
associated with each course. Prices have not been set at
this point, but will by the end of August. More information
will be posted on the StudentAffairs.com
Web page at that time, but you can be put on our e-mail
list to be notified as soon as course and registration
information are available. Just CLICK
HERE to add your name, title, institution and e-mail
address.
These online courses are being developed as a way for
student affairs professionals--at all levels--to supplement
both their formal and experiential educations. The Web is
the perfect tool to involve practitioners from all parts of
the country, at all size institutions, and at all
levels.
If you have suggestions for online courses, especially
from the new professional and residence life perspective,
please e-mail me at Stuart@StudentAffairs.com.
The StudentAffairs.com Position Listing site registered a
milestone this past June as the number of subscribing
institutions hit 325--a 20% increase since February! The
number of job postings also veered upwards as over 300
position listings were available on the site in the middle
of June.
The Position Listing site continues to be the most
accessed site on the Internet for student affairs
administrators seeking job opportunities, and for
institutions of higher education to place ads. The pages
receive tens of thousands of hits each month.
The cost for colleges and universities to become eligible
to list openings, which is based on the number of students
attending, is relatively small. The price allows for a full
year of unlimited job postings by any student affairs
department; the cost is not a per position fee:
- $50.00 for institutions with a student body below
3000
- $75.00 for institutions with a student body between
3000-6000
- $100.00 for institutions with a student body between
6000-10,000
- $150.00 for institutions with a student body over
10,000
The turnaround time from first contacting StudentAffairs.com
to being able to begin posting position openings is no more
than one or two days. For more information, contact Stuart
Brown at Stuart@StudentAffairs.com.
