Course Overview:
This three week INTENSIVE short course covers effective strategies for
finding the student affairs job that is right for you. Divided into
three, one week segments, the course covers identifying your job search
strengths and weaknesses, understand effective job search dynamics and
how they relate to you, and implementing an effective student affairs
job search.
Designed for all levels of student affairs staff, this course examines
job search dynamics that exist for the student affairs professional.
These include effectively using personal contacts, understanding
effective conference placement participation, and using technology
effectively in your job search.
Participants may share their job search experiences and strategies with
fellow participants and the instructor. One aspect of the course will
focus on active web-based learning strategies so participants will need
to actively participate on the course web-site.
It is recommended that participants access the course with at least a
56K modem or faster internet connection (cable modem, dsl, etc.).
Participants need moderate typing skills to interact effectively as well
as the ability to use a web browser. As the course is an intensive three
week experience, those participants getting the most out of the course
will participate daily during the week, and at their discretion on the
weekends. Participants may choose to participate in two OPTIONAL
synchronous chat sessions, but they are not required for successful
course completion.

Individuals registering for CEUs will receive 1.0 CEU upon successful
completion of the course.
Instructor Bio:
Kim Chambers, Ph.D., is manager of the Instructional Resource Center at
the University of Connecticut. He works with faculty members, teaching
assistants and staff instructors to assist them in using technology to
effectively promote student learning. He has worked in various jobs in
student affairs including residence life and career services. In the
private sector Kim worked with clients on developing career and life
planning skills.
