Week 10: Problems of Technology
Premise:
In order to effectively use technology we have to understand the
problems associated with incorporating technology into campus.
Purpose:
To explore the problems associated with integrating technology
into campus physical space and the classroom.
In Class Exercises:
The instructor will lead the beginning of class through a discussion
of the assigned readings. The second half of the class will consist
of a guest speaker. This individual will be from the institution's
informational technology department and discuss the current problems
facing the institution's technology integration.

Abstract:
The recipient of an award for leadership in information technology
(IT) in higher education discusses some considerations in approaching
IT use, including finding balance and avoiding burnout; transformations
made possible by technology; problems and frustrations of rapid
technological advance; organizational values and IT; and the
manner in which technology is magnifying human potential globally.

Abstract:
Describes several technology initiatives at Kirkwood Community
College (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) that focus on directly involving
faculty in the use of media and computer technology to improve

Home exercise:
Look in the Chronicle of Higher Education and find two articles
that focus on the Problems in Technology. Make a powerpoint presentation
that you will submit on the website for everyone to look at.
The Presentation should be no less than 8 slides. Focus in on
issues and solutions to these problems and steps that are being
taken to alleviate them.
