Week 14: Presentations, Job Search Projects
Premise:
This exercise is a practical application of the skills and competencies
gained throughout the course. Understanding that new professionals
need guidance as they negotiate the job search process, this
project will help students initiate a job searche.
Purpose:
To develop a comprehensive assessment of a university’s technology
use that is comprised of subjects covered in the course. To encourage
the use of internet research technologies in students’ professional
development. To help students launch their first job searches.
Description of the Assignment:
Students must submit a 3-4 page evaluation which summarizes the
material in the presentation. Student presentations should be
10-15 minutes in length and will utilize an instructional technology
to facilitate the presentation.
Important Topics to Consider:
At what type of institution would the student be most professionally
satisfied? Be as specific as possible, looking at a range of
institutional, geographic, and professional characteristics.
How does the institution use and fund technology?
How does the organizational climate promote or impede the use
of technology?
What problems have you observed regarding the application and
management of technology at the institution?
What can you, as a new professional, contribute to the technological
atmosphere of the institution?
How will you go about applying for the job? Will you use web-based
databases? How will you network with other professionals at that
institution? Describe the application process.
